Adviser or Advisor

Adviser or Advisor is a person - expert in a particular field, knowledgeable, and authoritative - who gives advice to someone else.

The word adviser is used in US English, while advisor is more common in British English. However, of late, adviser is increasingly being used for anyone who advises someone, and advisor for an official position.
